In a fictional England at the end of the 19th century, a cross mark curses a teenage boy named Allen Walker’s hand in the story. This curse transforms his arm into an enormous weapon that he uses to hunt down and kill akumas. At a moment of despair and devastation, someone implants an akuma into the soul of a human. In order to destroy all of humankind, the phantom uses the demons.

In Volume 2, we find ourselves on a demon hunting mission with a sad backstory. The aim is to develop the world and let Allen test his skills against a more experienced exorcist. There is a classic shonen rivalry between Allen and Kanda, the gentle idealist always trying to do the right thing and the angsty hothead who is a good person deep down, just having some issues to work out.

While I enjoy the gothic fantasy art …
