Miran Lipovača: Learn You a Haskell for Great Good! (Paperback, 2012, No Starch Press)

“I'm a List Comprehension” section from chapter 1 felt more like a cookbook than textbook. It literally bombards readers with examples of what can be done, but doesn't provide any exercises.

As I was reading, I created Anki cards via Incremental Reading addon ankiweb.net/shared/info/999215520, so hopefully it'll help me actually remember the material. However, it seems that if I were a complete novice in programming or haven't found that addon beforehand, I would have got overwhelmed quickly and dropped the book whatsoever.

Eric Normand: Grokking Simplicity: Taming complex software with functional thinking (2021) No rating

It's so easy to read, it's almost like reading a comic book. At the same time, "Grokking Simplicity" is kinda repetitive; e.g. not sure whether the reader needs to read thrice about why this book uses JavaScript for examples and not some other language more suitable for functional programming.

Somewhat underwhelming

I've read HPMoR several times over the years, and every single time I notice that I like the experiment & learning-focused first half of it way more than the action/plot (?) focused second one. Maybe I'm just biased towards non-fiction.
