I enjoyed the action and druid's sardonic view of the world.
As an added bonus for me, there's a talking dog and he's a delight.
If you're looking for a read that gives you what you get from Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, this is a good place to go.
Reviews and Comments
An avid sci-fi and fantasy reader who sometimes does historical fiction or even mainstream.
You might notice that most of my reviews are 5 stars. That's because if I start reading a book that doesn't engage me, I stop reading it. Life is too short. I've realized that it's not fair to review a book I haven't read and nobody really needs to hear why I didn't get into a book especially when they might like it.
My goals with reviews are to be brief and give other potential readers an idea of why they might like the book. I leave it to the marketing people and other reviewers to describe the plots.

David Scrimshaw reviewed The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie
Review of 'The Raven Tower' on 'Storygraph'
5 stars
This story that would be classified as fantasy is very different from Ms Leckie's science fiction, but just as rewarding in how different it is from everything else.
I just spent ten minutes saving links to all of her short stories that are online and downloading the podcasts of her stories that have been saved that way. Because some of them are set in the same universe.
Although it does not seem that any focus on the god who narrates The Raven Tower or on Eolo, the main human character.
I would really like to spend more time with either of them.

Terrific space opera with original sci-fi ideas and interesting politics.
I'm happy to see that this is "Teixcalaan #1" because I'll be wanting to read #2.

David Scrimshaw reviewed In an Absent Dream by Seanan McGuire (Wayward Children, #4)
Review of 'In an Absent Dream' on 'Storygraph'
5 stars
Seanan McGuire is doing amazing things with the concept of magical worlds that children go off to. In this one she creates a fascinating world based on fair bartering.
I particularly like how she skips over the "adventures" that most of these stories dwell on and gets right to the real drama for her character.

I like police procedurals and I like urban fantasy and this scratches both of those itches.
I wish I'd read this sooner after I read Rivers of London because I do not have a good memory of what happened to everyone in that book and even who was exactly who and it matters.
