Arimasa Naitoh, William J. Holstein: How the ThinkPad Changed the World_and Is Shaping the Future (Hardcover, Skyhorse) No rating

terrific intro and I'm excited to hear about the history of these lovely machines. makes me wonder if a book for the time between this books publishing and now exists? ten years is a long time in laptop years.

it also makes me wonder if a similar book for g-shock (or generally Casio) watches exists...

big moment in all these battles highlighting individual officers. at the end of chapter 99, I said "whoah. hell yeah." out loud. so far volume 13 has been my favorite from the series.

Cory Doctorow: Enshittification (Hardcover, MCD)

so far I am feeling like the choir being preached to. perhaps I'm not the target audience for this book.

it does have the author's great conversational style, though. a Doctorow book is like having a good chat with an intelligent person, so that's kept me going even though I'm aware of most of what he's covered so far.

It was fine, I suppose. Intro book with a touch of fuddlore. I sort of went into it expecting to learn about neat revolver mechanics but I should've read the summary first.

starting to get into the epidemiological section of the book and there is so much history here that I've forgotten. we lived through some wild times (and we continue to do so now)

just finished the section on targets. I really like the author's idea of single targets with multiple options to reduce administrative time at the range. this wouldn't work as well for something like uspsa but it'd be great for lots of other types of range exercises.

wrapped up part two. the tech workers section was too close to home. I've been under the spell of "vocational awe" before and it's terrible to think about those times. spot on...

I also learned two new words reading this: sufferance and hidebound.
