If you want to read a story of hardship and life as a misunderstood teen,pick this one up; Liz is incredibly courageous for being able to bring us that aspect of her life with such vivid detail. Even sadder, what she rails against in this book,as far as I am aware, is still happening today.

This is technically my second time reading this series, and I'll tell you...this time around was as good as the last; Love Mac, because though at the beginning, she looks like all she cares about is her southern life, you can see it prior to the end of the novel (and this is only the first one, so you can imagine how much more she will mature by the end of the entire series) that she's growing up, and finally realizing and being able to accept the more "adult" turn her life has taken.
