At times this book was hard to get through. The author clearly has a very well thought out world and manages to resist a lore dump so you only get hints of the depths of it throughout.
I think this is the first time I have finished a series and then after the 4th book gone right to the first one to reread it with the additional context.

Mostly stands up on an adult re-read although the ending felt a bit like a rushed afterword rather than a proper conclusion.
Read the French translation about 20 years ago and have always meant to read it again in English.
