I started reading this for points of view on forests as ecosystems and their cultural relevance for us. It's not quite that. I feel the themes of colonialism (obviously) and toxic masculinity within patriarchy, as well as the origin of violence, appear much stronger than the ecological ones. Overall still very good read!

That was definitely interesting! While sections on mimoids (is exmplained in the book) didn't give me that much, the sections on academic pursuits (and believe schools! and failures!) had me chuckling internally. I couldn't really find myself in any of the characters, but I enjoyed the plot nonetheless. I also only afterwards read that Lem wasn't the biggest fan of this translation, so I might check it out in German at some point in time

I've never felt so seen in my queerness and called out in my Whiteness while being forced to question the relationship with my mother and my aspirations as an artist. This will stay with me for a while

That was a read. Let's say that this is old and it has not aged well. From a 3rd wave feminist perspective, it's kinda terrible, actually.
Some points the book tries to make are TERFy af, white-supremacist and, while claiming to be feminist, still misogynistic (though this could be debated based on the POV it's written in...).
There are some observations on how patriarchy and capitalism intersect to exploit women are well presented, but it's not further investigated.
The chapters that touch on sex are downright horrible (especially considering consent within marriage, urgh).
I would not recommend it unless you're actually looking for a text from that time period and know what you're getting into.
