An avid sci-fi and fantasy reader who sometimes does historical fiction or even mainstream.

You might notice that most of my reviews are 5 stars. That's because if I start reading a book that doesn't engage me, I stop reading it. Life is too short. I've realized that it's not fair to review a book I haven't read and nobody really needs to hear why I didn't get into a book especially when they might like it.

My goals with reviews are to be brief and give other potential readers an idea of why they might like the book. I leave it to the marketing people and other reviewers to describe the plots.

Review of "Magician's Land" on 'Storygraph'

A satisfying end to the trilogy.

And it went in a direction I wouldn't have predicted.

If you're someone who read and reread all the Narnia books when you were a kid, and now you're grown-up, or at least, you're at an age where you're supposed to be grown-up, Lev Grossman's Magician series is a must read.

And now that the third book is out, you're safe to start the series. You don't have to worry that you'll wait years and he author might die before he finishes it.

Review of 'The Blade Itself' on 'Storygraph'

Full marks for interesting characters.

It only gets 4 stars because not much has happened by the end of the book.

But I'll be reading Books 2 and 3 because I do want to know what happens to Glotka the torturer.

James S. A. Corey: Cibola Burn (2015, Little, Brown Book Group Limited)

The fourth novel in James S.A. Corey’s New York Times bestselling Expanse series

Review of 'Cibola Burn' on 'Storygraph'

Not quite as gosh-wow as the previous three books in the series, but still solid fun and I'm eager for the next installment.
